Life on Purpose
by Dr Brad Swift
Book Review by Marie-Claire Wilson

This book teaches us how the most essential part of life takes place not in the external things that we do or through things measured by outside judges. What really matters in this life is what happens on the inside of us. Specifically, we must begin by getting to know and understand ourselves in order to develop into the person that we are meant to be.

Swift’s methods are techniques that we can practice in everyday life. He uses positive responses for finding effective solutions to the kinds of problems that we face day to day. Balance is key. Although we must take action toward our goals, if we are to narrow or too stubborn in our style, we can shut out our highest good. Sometimes what the Universe holds in our destiny is much better than anything we could have ever imagined.

Life is a spiritual lesson and sometimes we are tested. We often frame our problems by the way they crop up and seem to block us. Without our understanding the depth within them, we fall into the trap of pride. As a famous philosopher once wrote, “Life is one long lesson in humility.” It’s up to us when we will reach the state of humility so that we can learn the deeper lesson of our destiny.

The author writes: “My life is shaped by my life purpose rather than by what others expect of me or think I should be. We’ll learn as we travel further along the purposeful path that obligations and the expectations of others are two powerful influences that can keep us stuck in the rut of living a life off purpose. This is particularly true when we aren’t clear about who we are, why we’re here and when we don’t know what we stand for in life. As the old saying goes ‘if you don’t know what you stand for, you’ll fall for anything.’ When we begin to examine our life more closely, we’ll likely find places where it is being shaped by the expectations of people who aren’t even a part of our life anymore. This may include deceased parents, divorced spouses, former employers, and long lost friends…”

Thus, we give meaning to the events and circumstances in our lives. That meaning does not come from without, or not entirely. Of course, we are influenced and shaped by many experiences and teachers. The author gives practical solutions about how to unburden ourselves of “old baggage” that we carry from past experiences, and how to transform that into something positive and constructive. The first step as always is to be completely honest with ourselves about who we are before we can begin to master ourselves!

The essential point that gives us the ultimate freedom is that we are in control of the meaning of our lives, and in control of living out our destiny. That is the true definition of being rich, that richness in our souls, that richness that is our individual self without ego and pride. Nothing can change that, nothing can tear that from us.

The message and the methods in this book are very uplifting and practical, especially for those who are going through difficult times or personal loss. This gives a way to surmount those troubles and succeed in having a rich, meaningful life and personal worth, the very definition of happiness.

Imagine what would happen if you just ask the Universe and your every wish could come true. Suddenly the world becomes a place full of possibilities and magic. Whatever we think and feel, wherever we focus our energies, positive or negative, we magnetize it to ourselves. The Universe responds. This is how manifestation works, based not in magic but in sound spiritual principles, including the universal principle, the Law of Attraction, “like attracts like.”

Creative thinking and positive visualization are just a few of the particularly effective methods that the author explains, including how to stay in the positive and manifest constructively. Creative thinking allows us to improve ourselves. It allows us to get more clarity about what we want in life, to identify our greatest priorities, and to profoundly reshape the quality of our lives. It teaches us how to attract all of this to us. We can even direct the energetic power of our thoughts to bring about material results. This gives us not only freedom, but also a sense of the limitless capabilities as we delve into our souls and grow as spiritual beings. Free your mind and you will free your soul.

This book is full of love, hope and practical methods to get us through the hardest of times. It teaches how to become aware of the power of our thoughts and the freedom and happiness that come with discovering our purpose.
