Lifestyle Coach Carol S.Batey is the mother of six children and the author of numerous magazine and newspaper articles as well as a handbook for parents and educators, Parents Are Lifesavers (Corwin Press, 1996).

In her autobiographical account, lifestyle coach Carol S. Batey, writes a message that is simple to hear yet difficult to act on.  We all have special gifts and we were put here on Earth to share those gifts, to help our friends, our loved ones, our communities, and most all, ourselves. How do we do that?  -By finding and following our passion in life.

Our source and our essence are directly connected with the greater infinity of the Universe. We are wrong to think that we have so many limitations. Our connection to the infinite give us infinite possibilities, infinite capacities –  for love and for making our own destiny. We don’t have to limit ourselves. Not only is everything possible, but nothing is impossible.

All of this potential can be unlocked when we believe –  really believe strongly  –  in the concept of possibility.  Strong belief makes positive solutions move from the dream realm to the actual reality of the everyday functioning in our lives.  It all boils down to having faith:  faith in ourselves and faith in the infinity of the human soul.

The author writes:  “When I approached my 50th birthday, I had a sound determination, real purpose, and a creative personal plan to reach my healthy lifestyle goals and to transform myself.  According to the dictionary, the word ‘transform’ means ‘to change in form and appearance.’  Such has been my case for two years. After filing for a divorce almost nine years ago, I feared the unknown. Could I make it on my own by myself? And what would be my destiny in this life?”

This extraordinary woman decided to make a career in the fashion industry. She followed a diet and exercise regime with an iron will.  She succeeded, going from a plus size to a svelte size 8.  Then, she became a “mature woman” model!  Possessing great beauty in her attitude and her bearing, she accomplished all of this with conscious resolve.

The author’s example of courage, determination, and the positive results of sustained willpower is thrilling. At the age of 50, she realized that she had never been so beautiful, inside and out. That’s because the soul reflects itself in our physical appearance. This woman demonstrates that you can achieve whatever you wish if you plant the seeds of your desire firmly in your subconscious.

We get in the habit of constantly blaming outside circumstances, conditions, and events, which is more comfortable. But we should be looking inward for the causes, not outside of ourselves. What we think and believe day in and day out causes what happens to us.  Our health, our happiness, and our prosperity all depend, not on events and circumstances outside of us, nor from the actions of other people. We are the result of how we think and believe about the world, about ourselves. For example, if you believe that you are a victim, you are one. If you believe that you are happy, you are happy.

Think of our human spirit as a garden. The seeds are our thoughts, impressions, connections, desires, feelings, and beliefs. Everything that we engrave on our subconscious becomes manifested in the concrete reality of our lives. This is a principle cosmic law!

A positive mental attitude and a conviction grounded in the limitless possibilities of our lives will produce the results we want.  The trick is to remember that we must deeply imprint these “seeds” in the garden of our mind for them to take root. That’s what is meant by strong belief. Trying half-heartedly will not produce results. It takes practice and perseverance – like exercising, but mentally. The garden metaphor is quite apropos. We don’t just plant the seeds and “hope” for the best. We water the seeds, care for the young plants, and then we tend to the growth. We don’t give up when the first ugly weeds and sticker vines grow! This also means that we must constantly weed out the errant thoughts and prune the growth when necessary for strength and for the best flowers and fruit. No sincere effort is in vain, and no lesson is without merit. Fertilizer is the sustained faith in ourselves as being worthy of our desires and goals.

While she writes about her own life, she gives by her example a practical approach to solving the inevitable travails of life and the constructive effects of a positive attitude. The cosmos has its laws, making no exceptions. It favors no one.  We can get rid of negative obsessions and anguish, which come from ignorance of cosmic laws, by going with the limitless flow of the Universe.  Have faith.
I recommend this book as an excellent example of how we can accomplish what we desire if we strongly believe.
