Happy Palmistry
Milestones of Karma - Rites of Passage
by T. Stokes

ince ancient times Man has undergone initiation ceremonies as a prelude to entering other life stages.
The Bible mentions the 3 score years and 10 and Shakespeare too identifies these 7 ages of man, this dividing into sets of ten year pieces or decamons, as being the key to the pathways of life, and of preparation to enter them
Both astrology, numerology and the sister science of palmistry are useful tools in the assessment of all change, remember these changes mostly begin internally then permeate to the outer arenas but certain conditions do exist where change is initiated from the external world to that within, so any ritualistic ceremony helps to smooth these changes into our lives.
The 4 aspects which show particularly on the life line in the hand: spring, summer, autumn and winter concur with the child, adolescence, maturity and old age stages, and were believed in ancient times to be watched over by the 4 archangels who are thus described in Revelations 4-6:7 “and around the throne, on each side of it are 4 living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind, the first living creature like a lion, the second like an ox, the third with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle”. These astrological symbols show; Leo as the Lion, Taurus as the Bull, Aquarius, the only man in the zodiac, and the Eagle, the ancient sign for Scorpio.
Christianity recognizes 7 separate sacraments and these align with other belief systems in showing the spiritual powers of the 7 life divisions into Decamons. If we link the 7 planets of traditional astrology, the 7 main chakras, and the 7 deadly sins (which correspond with these chakras), the 7 theosophical soul levels and the 7 types of hand shape, and the 7 ages of man, we see a connection in the weave of belief in all systems or religions. And if we ally these rites to those aspects of change, we gain great insight and are able to see that the ancients inner world was more in harmony to their outer than we are today.
Primitive man had few concerns, mainly enough food, warmth and shelter from the weather and wild animals, today we are essentially the same creatures yet anthropologists tell us that every hour 3000 different signals bombard us in our complex lives, combining to give us continual crippling stress, with attendant anxiety and depression. There is a current epidemic of panic attacks never seen before. So the celebration of these transitions have a value as real to us as our stone age brethren.

palm print It was first noticed by Flemish anthropologist A Van Gennep and published in his landmark book “les rites de passage” in 1909, that these ancient rites contained a connection in location or in time and they contained 3 phases; “preliminal, liminal and postliminal” and that they showed movements marked by ritual transitions. He then listed a whole basket of situations where these transitions needed accompanying rites.
The Native American rite of brave to warrior was both a test of the physical and the spiritual qualities. This is allied in the west to the age to vote, get a tattoo or body piercing, or leaving the family nest.
The linkage to transition, as mentioned by Carl Jung, Chief Sitting Bull and Hans Eysenck seems most apparent at ages 7-14-21-28. Carl Jung noted that age 35 was a time of spiritual difficulty. Astrologers will put the date slightly forward with a Saturn return at age 30. Marriage guidance crisis figures peak at 32 years of age.
These inner times of change and crisis, echoed in the 7 Christian traditions of: birth, baptism, first communion, confirmation, wedding, first child and death were actually designed to be aligned to and activate the 7 main chakras, and are covered by their ruling planets.
Time, movement and destiny show particularly well in the 7 major lines of the handprint. Lifeline figure (1) Fate or destiny line (2) Heart line (3) Head line (4) Venus girdle (5) Line of Mars (6) and Relationship lines (7). Within the ranges of these lines the whole life map is laid out, and can be sectioned easily into the life plan.
