SH: So that’s
how it ended, but what were you doing before you had the accident?
What was your lifestyle, your spiritual path, what kind of work were
you doing.
NDW: Well I don’t know that I was following any particular
spiritual path at that point. Prior to that I had been doing a variety
of things. I was up in Portland Oregon. I had the accident just outside
of Ashland Oregon. I worked in Portland Oregon ad a spiritual lay
counselor, but I wasn’t following any particular spiritual
path. I think that this brought it in. Before that, I was in radio
and I was a professional journalist for many years of my life. I
was the managing editor of a newspaper and at one time I was the
program director of a radio station. I was really a media person.
SH: Could you compare this as sort an initiation, a trial by fire
that many cultures ask their men to go through before being recognized
as a warrior?
NDW: I think its virtually identical. All people, on some level go
through their own initiation, whether they recognize it for what
it is or not. That is whether they see it for what it really is.
I think that every human being goes through one if not several periods
that could be called an initiation. But the issue will always be,
even with the warrior or the brave who goes into the woods, whether
they will come out of the woods having received what they went in
to find. This wasn’t the first time period of tribulation or
testing in my life, but it was the most exasperating. I went through
it with out much success. It’s like God was saying “Just
what do I have to do?” I’ve been through the big test.
I had nothing, only the clothes on my back a knapsack and the tent.
I was literally down to nothing. I had no money.
SH: So you’re saying that that the electricity was turned up
on the divine’s cattle prod to get your attention?
NDW: I guess I was just one of those people, I was very headstrong,
very full of myself and I thought that I had all of the answers.
I figured I had to be brought to my knees, if you will before I woke
up to what life was trying to show me.
SH: So, how do you hold on to the wisdom path?
NWD You realize the revelation with a humm, then as you have the
ah ha pass it on to another. I have discovered that the passing of
the message on keeps the message with me. Conversations With God
puts this rather succinctly. “That which you wish to experience
within yourself calls another to experience.
SH: It appears that you have saved a lot of pain in others with your
books. We don’t all have to have to painful experiences to
learn from them/
NDW: I hope that’s true. And I hope that beyond that they can
take the second step which is true that’s the healing experience
itself. That is where collectively we can collectively avoid the
pitfalls that humanity has fallen into for so many years. It’s
about raising the collective consciousness so that we can change
the world entirely. We are at a very crucial point in the humanity’s
history. We have to make some huge choices about who we are and who
we choose to be, as a species I mean. What I hope these books will
do is not only alter the individual experience of the person, but
shift the collective consciousness of humanity. So that‘s the
second phase of that expression that I hope will occur.
That's
the reason I formed the group of 1000 and created the School of the
New Spirituality and Humanity’s Team. All of those outreach
programs are efforts to place into the common experience a new mythology,
a new cultural story, a new idea about God, about life and about
each other that can change everything. I won’t rest easy until
I see some shift in the global society.
SH: What do you hope that audiences will gain from seeing this movie?
NDW: A simple message that God is talking to all of us all of the
time. We’ve got God all wrong, and that we’re never alone.
If human beings can embrace those three simple messages from this
movie it can take that first step to change their lives and are in
a position to begin to impact the lives of others around them thus
to change the world entirely. I see the very clear process. First
an individual has to be impacted, and this movie will, I hope impact
individuals in that way. I hope that they will walk away with that
hummm… I hope that this places people into that space of wonder
where they might wonder again about that most wonder-ful experience
of life itself, which is, of course, the experience with God.
SH: Our friends are raving about your latest book, At Home With God.
Now you tell me that this is the end of the series. What are your
plans for the future?
NWD: God has changed my job description. My job description has changed
from one who receives the message to one who takes the message out
to others in the big way. So I intend to use the next moments of
my life to do whatever I can to bring this message to people. And
I will stop at nothing. I am shameless. I will use whatever communication
form or device that is given to me to use in order to do that. It
could look like more movies, even television, the theatre, plays,
and the obvious workshops and retreats that I am already doing. But
I intend to use the next time that I am given to carry to as many
people as I can this wonderful message.
SH: I really enjoyed your performance in the movie, Indigo, and also
in the Into Me See DVD that we received from James Twyman. Can we
expect to see more of you in these kinds of films?
NDW: Yes that’s an example of what I’m talking about.
What I’ll be doing in the next period of my life is to use
whatever device that falls my way. I did Into Me See at the last
minute - someone couldn’t make it. Its just come on down town
in a couple of days… I asked is this the message I want to
send? I’ll take a look at it. And so it was and it just fell
into my lap. Of course they’ll be more books, just no more
books in this series, no more dialog type books. I hope that God
will give the chance to spend the rest of my life touching as many
people as I can with whatever device is made available to me with
the wondrous message of God’s truth. I’m so sorry to
see the world the way it is today that our children and grandchildren
have to face the kinds of outcomes that our generation has put into
place. I’m going to spend whatever time I have left here to
invite the world to see itself in a new way.
