The signs of the Zodiac
are for the most part, the highway, or path, the Sun takes on its
yearly journey across the heavens-as it would appear to earthlings.
These signs are actually star constellations occupying space in which
the Sun appears to travel in an earth year. The original twelve signs/constellations:
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo. Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius,
Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces are quite familiar to most people,
however, the thirteenth sign/constellation, is not well known.
About 2000 years ago the Sun traveled from the constellation Scorpio
and then went directly into the sign of Sagittarius, but due to the
constant motion of the cosmos, the Sun now enters, for a few days
of the year, the star Constellation Ophiuchus (o-fee-u-cus) before
entering Sagittarius from Scorpio, thus creating Astrologically the
birth of a thirteenth sign, Ophiuchus.
Ophiuchus is the 5th element, what the Buddhist calls the Chi, the
life force. It is the serpent lying curled up at the bottom of the
human spine, the Kundalini energy. Ophiuchus has to do with healing
and its planetary ruler is Neptune because of its gentle, regenerative
properties and the drive for peace and universality. Ophiuchus has
no opposite sign, so singularity instead of polarity is the dominant
state of this sign, there is no conflict or need to balance polarities,
however within the sign will be positive and negative characteristics.
People born under this sign have a one pointed kind of determination.
They don’t get the point sometimes. They can cause resentment
because they seem to be oblivious to anything other than their own
concerns.
The constellation of Ophiuchus
is the only sign of the Zodiac, which is likened to a real human.
This man lived in ancient Egypt around the 27th century BCE, and
his name was Imhotep. The attributes of lmhotep can also be found
in the Biblical Hebrew character, Joseph, son of Jacob as well the
Sith in the latest Star Wars movie. Imhotep is credited with
many accomplishments including the knowledge and use of medicine.
It is said that Imhotep brought the art of healing to mankind. The
symbol of a serpent (or snake), which is still widely used today
to represent the medical profession, was used to represent Imhotep.
The ancient Greeks also knew Imhotep as Aesclepius but by any name
the attributes are still the same.
Ophiuchus is also called the Serpent Holder, Serpent Bearer, or the
Serpent Charmer. Ophiuchus means “unceasingly gentle”.
Imhotep. half human, half divine (half reptilian) was the son of
Apollo, (fuIl blood reptilian) the bright god of prophecy, poetry
and music, and of Coronis, a mortal princess. They were called The
Shining Ones because their eyes were so bright, the light from their
eyes could fill up a room. The sons of gods came into the daughters
of men and produced hybrids or the Nephilim. Ophiuchus shows us how
we can break the “god’s” spell through compassion.
