Messengers of Love, Light
and Grace:
Getting to know your Personal Angels by Terry Lynn Taylor
Book Review by Marie-Claire Wilson
Terry Taylor is the author of several
bestselling books on angels, including Messengers of Light
and Creating with the Angels. Her website is www.angelscanfly.com.
This book is guaranteed to help you to connect with your personal
angels. All you have to do is follow the easy exercises and
meditations that the author provides for you. This information
is very timely and relevant to our world today. Taylor’s
exercises and meditations will show you how to:
. Invite angels into your life.
. Cultivate the qualities that angels respond to.
. Create deep, lasting bonds with your angels.
. Awaken your prayer voice to call upon your angels.
In order to better understand the depth of the message that underlines
all of the author’s points in this book, just remember what
angels represent from a symbolic dimension. Angels are intermediary
beings between this world and the Creator. Angels usually
have extraordinary powers of good. They are accepted as taking
on many different forms and they are mentioned in many of the most
holy texts transcending religions and spiritual disciplines. They
are found in the Christian tradition and in ancient Eastern texts
among others. Some angels are portrayed as purely spiritual beings,
some are portrayed as spirits endowed with an ethereal (not solid)
body, or an ethereal-type body that only inhabits the air and never
comes down to the ground, and some are spiritual/physical beings
portrayed as inhabiting a corporeal body (like our bodies, for
example). But they only take on the appearances of humans;
angels are never actually human.
One could say that angels do what the Creator designates for them,
fulfilling such functions as ministering, messengers, carrying
out Divine laws, protecting those selected by the Creator, and ushering
in day and night, for example. In some traditions, they are
even organized in hierarchies. The best known of those traditions
include the seven orders (7 being a holy number), the nine choirs,
and the three triads. Celestial hierarchies are really a reflection
of earthly hierarchies and the reciprocal relationships are an
inspiration to humankind.
Terry Lynn Taylor gives us these remarkable techniques so that
we an open up our hearts to these celestial messengers that we
know as angels. Taylor’s book contains the following
seven (7) chapters:
1. Messengers of light
2. Angel Consciousness
3. Cultivating Resonant Qualities
4. Nurturing Angel Practices
5. Awakening Your Prayer Voice
6. Touched by the Angels
7. In the World, But Not of It
Personally, I really liked Chapter 4, “Nurturing Angel Practices,” where
the author talks about how much influence the story of Mary Poppins
has had on our popular culture, and how we can draw from that. Taylor
writes: “Mary Poppins had a magical bag she carried
to restore balance. So for your work as an angel on call,
you might want to prepare your own magical bag with the following. It’s
always wise to include a prayer of correct intention asking that
the angels be strongly present. Look around, if there are people
acting chaotically, you can change the chemistry of the situation
by becoming very peaceful and acutely aware of what can be done
to restore balance. Creating an altar is a natural response
to any dire situation. We see this all the time. Sometimes
people put candles or flowers at places where accidents have taken
lives, so look for flowers, rocks, berries, and anything else that
inspires you, and create a space for spiritual focus. You may be
the one to initiate this “
This is why angels also play a role when there are signs of something
sacred, an event a place, a person. Angels symbolize the creatures
that embody the appearance already made real from the transformation
of the visible into the invisible - something that we will all
(eventually) accomplish through death.
The part about “Registering Divine Essence,” particularly
appealed to me. I think it is interesting to point out what
the author wrote: “Here are some things you might want
to register with the angels:”
. Goals . Creative ideas
. Dreams . Noble thoughts
. Daydreams . Your gratitude”
. Images . Raves and rants (as long as you don’t take them
seriously)
The most vivid are the personal angelic meetings that they have
shared in her workshops. For example, a man named Jeff speaks
of his experience: “I’ve been on a singular,
upward path for 18 years. I am now 36, so that’s half
my life, which has passed at the speed of light. I am a man
compelled and drawn. I have no choice but to seek truth. At
the end of your workshop, when you asked everyone to pick an ANGEL
card, I picked the card with the word Grace on it. I assumed
Grace referred to God’s grace. But two days later, I
was awakened by the most compelling thought: Grace is the
name of my guardian angel. The next day, when I went
to collect my mail, guess what I found? A postcard with the
word Grace printed on the front. I have no friends or acquaintances
by the name of Grace. In fact, I’ve never met anyone
named Grace, until now. I’ve no doubt that my guardian
angel was sending me a very clear message.” This example
shows just how important angels are in our lives.
There is a symbolic and functional association when the messengers
from the other world go out of their way to enter ours. They often
do so in the form of swans, or appear as religious angels with
the wings of swans. Yes, angels appear in different aspects,
but those swan wings have many significances too, sometimes as
a masculine energy that wraps you in their protection, sometimes
as feminine protective energy. Sometimes angels appear as
adorable little winged cherubs. You will enjoy all of the
great depictions of angels as they are illustrated throughout this
book.
The author gives us easy, effective methods to get the most out
of angels. Here is one of the spiritual assignments: There
must be an exchange from us to the angels and from the angels to
us in such a way that constantly, night and day, perhaps even better
when we are sleeping than when we are awake, that we receive and
send back the heavenly influences that make us who we are, that
can change us into better people, and that can change the way that
we believe, think, and act. It’s important to communicate
with angels if we wish to keep evolving on a spiritual level, of
course, but especially if we want to evolve on a conscious level,
the level of living, being and acting, day to day. Angels
will help us whether or not we implore them. Their role is
to help us grow and to protect us while we are here.
If we pay attention to these celestial beings, and if we put into
practice all of the techniques that the author gives us in this
book, we will have a truly awe-inspiring surprise. It is amazing
how attentively angels listen to us, and how lovingly they respond
to us. And the best part is that it is so EASY to be understood
by angels!
This book has a spiritual message with rich examples. Angels
are exquisite creatures full of love, standing by and ready to
help us, to guide us on our paths, which are filled with roses
if we employ the help of the angels. They will even help us avoid
the thorns. I highly recommend this book to all readers.
