The Lost Secret Of Mary Magdalene

The “supreme initiate” of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, is one of the most mysterious of all literary figures. Said to be a prophetess who ‘knew the All’, a priestess of Isis and Ishtar, a “holy harlot” who seduced men from the Eastern and Western world (including a messiah), a shining example of conversion from “sin,” a mother of future kings, and a perfumer, she’s as alluring as the “mare among stallions” the Egyptians’ enemies set loose in war to drive the pharaoh’s stallions wild.
Like other women of high birth, including Isis in Egypt, Mari-Inanna and Ishtar of Mesopotamia, and Asherah in Canaan, Mary Magdalene (MM) was associated with a pillar or tower. Here name Mary means ‘beloved.’ ‘Magdala’ or ‘Magdalene’ means ‘tower.’ Controversy surrounds this term.
While enormous recent attention has focused on the possibility that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a family, the focus of my Magdalene research is the connection between MM and Isis. There are fascinating correlations between the legends of Isis and Mary Magdalene. In particular, both figures were concerned with the resurrection of a god or Redeemer. The similarity (or symmetry) of the events of Jesus and Osiris’s life and the parallels between the MM/Isis story are profound.
Most importantly, Isis had a Tower or Pillar called the Ta-Wer of Osiris, named for her husband who was the Egyptian god of resurrection. In the depiction featured here from the shrine of Osiris at Abydos in Egypt, we see Isis tending this pillar or tower. Also known as the Head of God and Osiris’s Ladder or Stairway to Heaven, this device may be the key that unlocks the secrets of the Egyptian belief in resurrection and the meaning of the name ‘Magdalene.’
I call this Stairway to Heaven a device because of the pun enfolded within this term. A device is a machine or contraption. It is also a technique or means, i.e. a plan. In addition it is a graphic symbol or pattern.
Studying the Tower-device, we can see that it has a platform that clearly resembles the biblical Ark of the Covenant, which numerous researchers believe was a device used by the Israelites to communicate with Yahweh. At Abydos, an antenna-like pillar is attached to this appliance. This was called the ‘shuti’ or ‘enlightenment’ pillar.
My Egyptian research reveals this Tower-device symbolizes a range of disciplines including anatomy, astronomy, geometry and possibly hyperdimensional physics, the science of bending space-time or curving light. In a word, the Tower symbolizes alchemy, the science of resurrection. As the ‘operator’ of this ‘device’ Isis is thought of as the teacher of these ‘beloved’ disciplines. It’s her brainchild.
THE BOX AND THE SKULL
In allegorical paintings Mary Magdalene is frequently portrayed holding a vial or a jar of anointing oil (or a balm) called the ‘alabstron,’ as well as a skull. In The Magdalene Legacy, Laurence Gardner reveals that this alabastron ‘jar’ is actually a BOX. MM holding a box with oil matches the scene from Abydos that features Isis setting up the Pillar/Tower with a BOX containing the HEAD of Osiris upon it. In the illustration to the left, a priest anoints it with HOLY OIL. Is this the origins of Mary Magdalene’s alabastron – the BOX with anointing oil?
Both the box and the skull symbols are found in the Isis-Osiris story, which is so similar to that of Mary and Jesus. “Golgotha” (where Jesus was crucified) means “place of the skull”. The Cross of Crucifixion is called the Stairway to Heaven.
In painting MM with the box and skull, perhaps visionary artists devised a way to show that Magdalene understood the thresholds of death, and thus were honoring her role as priestess. I believe MM knew the super secret Egyptian science of Resurrection, symbolized by the Head or Tower of Osiris, and acted as a priestess of Isis who for centuries had assisted in the passages from spirit into life through birth and back into spirit through death.
What would it mean to our culture if Mary Magdalene were revealed as a priestess of Isis? What if it was widely recognized that MM and Jesus revived a ‘lost’ Egyptian science of Resurrection?
