Night falls, and all the
world prepares for slumber. The sounds of traffic, television
and talk give way to the quiet nocturne. Silence blankets the land
like nightfall, and when the sunlight fades and stars pop out into
a darkening sky, sleep comes upon us like a warmblanket. We
go to bed and drift into asleep until the alarm wakes us in the morning,
urging us forward to face yet another day of busy-ness. This
cycle of sleep, wake, work, sleep is a broken record of monotony. It
is the unfortunate byproduct of life in an ultra-modern society. It
is a truly unnatural way to live. In the hectic pace of modern living
we forget that we’re Earth’s children, and in forgetting
this we lose touch with the power of Nature that sustains us. It’s
at this time we begin to feel the urge for reconnection. Running about from task to task, we find that there are just not
enough hours in the day to do what we want, and need, to do to keep
ourselves “in touch” with our spirituality. We sense
that our soul is unfulfilled, and when we sense our disconnection
from the Earth, we long to reconnect with what sustains us.
But how can we do this? How do we find the time? Reconnection
to the Earth Mother is not as difficult or time consuming as one
may think. While some are able to find time after a busy day,
others simply feel depleted after a day on the go and can do nothing
more than rest. A solution is needed, and lucky for us that
solution lies just outside our front door. The reconnection
with Nature can be achieved by simply being present with the Earth
Mother at the dawn of a new day.
When was the last time you woke up with the Earth? Waking up with
the Earth is one of the most beautiful ways to connect with the planet
and all of Her creatures. To be present at the hour before dawn,
alone and outside, can set the tone for a day full of peace and tranquility. The
quiet of an early morning spent outdoors stills the soul. The
immediate knee-jerk reaction to life is stifled. The body, soul
and spirit align with the rhythms of Earth and this allows one to
go about the day with a certain sense of calm. There is an inner
knowing that no matter what happens to us, the cosmos is still sustaining
us.
If this sounds like something of benefit, pick a morning to watch
the sun rise. Set your clock to rise at least an hour before
daybreak. Grab a cup of coffee or a mug of tea and go outside. Find
a place to sit and relax. Listen to the silence. One
of the most beautiful things to experience is total and absolute
silence. The Earth and all of Her creatures are asleep. If
you are sensitive enough, you can feel the energy of the living
planet. These vibrations are the breath of life, the pulse
of the planet. The ground beneath your feet is supporting
you, as do the bones in your body. When was the last time
you realized that fact? Feel that support. Immerse yourself
in that energy.
In the silence, one can ground into this pulse, becoming one with
all of Nature. Take a few moments in the quiet stillness to
center your being and feel the energy. As the Earth spins eastward
the dawn approaches in gentle waves, slowly waking the insects, birds
and mammals. The sky ignites with winds that blow soft across
the planet. Even the trees awaken, their branches stirred by
the lilt of the morning breeze. At the first sign of light, notice
the sky. A painter would envy Nature’s palette. The
atmosphere collects the rays of sunlight and disperses them into
various sherbet hues, from indigo to pink to lavender to peach. Fill
yourself with these colors and offer a prayer of thanksgiving for
the life-giving energy of the Sun.
Take note of the evolution of the morning time. Listen to the
birds sing praises to Father Sun. Feel the gentle breezes blow
against the skin. Smell the freshness that morning dew brings
to the plant life. See the colors unfold above you. Taste
the newborn day and revel in the awareness of being alive.
This is life. This is what’s real. In waking with the
Earth, we align ourselves to our soul-self. In connecting with
Nature, we are reminded of our true, Earthling being and of our place
in the cosmos. Watching the world awaken creates peace in the
soul, love in the heart, and calm in the bones. There is truly
no better way to start the day than this.
When was the last time time you watched the world awaken? Did
you know that only one hour spent outdoors before sunrise can alter
the unfolding course of your day?
