The Three Laws of Troubles
by Raymond Moody |
I may not know much, but one thing I know for sure is that I’ve
figured out God’s plan for troubles.
It all boils down to three simple laws, which I call the Moody
laws of troubles. Anyone can confirm what I’m saying for
themselves, just by thinking about troubles and by asking around
among their friends.
The first law of troubles:
1. Everyone’s got troubles! I mean everyone You already know
you have troubles, but perhaps you think some people are immune. They
seem so happy, you think, and besides they’ve got at least
a million dollars HA!!!
The Second law of troubles:
2. Everyone’s troubles are the worst troubles in the world.
I know mine are, and my wife’s come second, and our friend
Linda’s are in third place, just to name a few. I’m
sure you’d agree that your troubles are the worst ones in
the world, too. They are just about the worst troubles anyone has
ever had, I’ll bet. I’m sure that you wish so much
your troubles would go away, just like I wish mine and my wife’s
would too. Interestingly enough though, when they do, they come
into collision with the third law of troubles.
The Third law of troubles:
3. The instant ones troubles go away, other troubles pop right
up to take their place. I’ll say this about God; he sure
has his system of troubles timed perfectly. I hope he has it all
on computer, so he doesn’t have to spend too much time watching
to see the moment someone’s troubles come to an end, so he
can send them some new ones.
If you have small children, pets or other creatures that do not
mind, you’ve got real troubles. But then again if you’ve
got teens, aging parents, sick friends and loved ones, well that
is serious troubles. If you’ve got lots of money that has
plenty of troubles that go along with it, if you’ve got too
little money, then you want to trade your big troubles for those
of the ones the people with tons of money have.
By the way, I’ve known people with tons of money, and you
definitely don’t want their troubles either.
We can all sympathize and imagine the trouble those who’ve
suffered from hurricane Katrina are having. And I think we can
agree they really do have the worst trouble of any of us, but of
course that is domestic trouble. What about world wide trouble?
The war in Iraq? the famine and killing and Aids in Africa? There
are problems all over the world. On whose troubles do we focus?
Well it is overwhelming, but focusing outward instead of inward
makes our own troubles pale in comparison. Lending a helping hand,
volunteering, and worrying about others, does seem to make our
own troubles, if not go away, then lessen a bit.
But most days when it is all said and done, I think I’ll just keep focusing
on my own troubles, somehow it is more familiar and comfortable and just seems
right, how about you?
