For all of you who don’t know what CAMA is,
here is a brief explanation of their work. They are a group of
volunteer activists who work to educate legislators and the public
in general about alternative and complimentary medicine. Each January
CAMA volunteers have awareness day at the Georgia State Capitol.
Here is the letter that I received asking for our help.
CAMAction fights local legislation with hidden problems. We
respond to national issues as well. An infrastructure of activists
needs to always be in place so a massive influx of attention can
be exerted in a short amount of time…. as soon as we learn
of a good or bad bill in a committee or on the floor.
Please help us share the information about CAM Wellness Day, January
24, 2006. We hope to have 2,000 people contact the state capitol
that day. Those names will, hopefully be in a database set
up like a “phone tree.” In the future when there
is a local or national issue CAMAction will contact my Team Leaders
again. They will each contact their Contact Coordinators who
in turn will contact their Legislative Contacts. In review: CAMAction
contacts 10 who contact 20 who contact 10 equaling a total of 2,000. |
Each
year we hope to update the contact information for everyone and
then add to the list to make, say, 3,000 contacts on CAM Day 2007.
The ability to stimulate over a thousand voter contacts in a short
time is powerful. But we need to set it all up. See,
most people need that personal phone call or friendly e-mail from
someone they know in order to take action. That’s why
a mass e-mail blast or mass mailing will not be nearly as effective
as the “phone tree” model. We plan to update and hopefully
expand it each year for CAM Wellness Day at the Capitol.
Please help us notify CAM consumers and providers. We need them to become
a Team Leader, Contact Coordinator or Legislative Contact people (of course everyone
is a Legislative Contact person in addition to being a TL or CC). They can contact
me at 404-350-0656 aliciawatts@bellsouth.net or get information off the websites
www.camaction.org or www.camaweb.org
Sincerely,
Alicia Evans Watts, CAM Day Chairman |
