plan that opened 2.4 million acres of the Tongass National Forest
to aggressive logging and road building. The landmark decision
makes illegal the Forest Service’s push for more than 50
massive timber sales in the Tongass, the home of America’s

5. Felix Hoffmann, a German chemist, produced a stable form
of acetylsalicylic acid, more commonly known as aspirin, in 1897.
He was searching for something to relieve his father’s
arthritis. He studied French chemist named Charles Gergardt’s
experiments and “rediscovered” acetylsalicylic acid
or aspirin, as we now know it. It was not available without a
