7 wonders

1. Pharmaceutical cartel plotting to crush the sale of dietary supplements worldwide. CODEX Alimentarius back door strategy with the US participation in CAFTA and other world trade organizations is eroding our freedom to choose holistic healh care. CAFTA is already the law of the land as of Aug. 2005. If consumers don’t wake up and speak out soon, it will be too late as it is in most of Europe & Canada. The Crusador

2. Green tea ingredient proven to cure cancer. Researchers have found that an antioxidant in green tea known as EGC can latch on to a protein called laminin receptor located in tumor cells and stymie their growth. Lung cancer cells significantly slowed their reproduction after taking the equivalent of just two cups. Nature Structural & Molecular Biology 4/04

3. Cats are not meant to be vegetarian. Unlike dogs, cats must have a mostly meat diet. Cats must have an amino acid called taurine. Without it they may become extremely ill. Energy Times 5/04

4. Around 1990, marine scientist John Martin said “Give me half a ship load of iron and I will give you an ice age.” Experiments showed that iron-poor waters do in fact bloom with algae when enriched with iron. The other part of this hypothesis was that it causes carbon dioxide to be drawn from the atmosphere into the enriched environment. The jury is still out on the latter. Discovery Magazine

5. With all the cloak and dagger of the Bush administration’ “Terrorism Information Awareness” gathering gigabytes of data on private citizens, a citizen is striking back. In 2003, MIT grad student Ryan McKinley decided to post his own site called Government Information Awareness. (www.opengov.us) When I attempted to access the site, I encountered a message that access was forbidden. The site is only open to the MIT Media Laboratory & needs a pass word. Oh well as we all know, the government won’t really allow us this kind of one site tells all freedom. Keep on blogging! Discovery Magazine

6. The banks prefer that you use debit cards rather than checks or credit cards for several reasons. Federal laws protecting lost or stolen debit cards fall under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and the swiftness of your response dictates the amount of the liability. If you fail to report the loss within two business days you could be liable for up to $500. If you fail to report the loss within 60 days, oh well, you’re cleaned out! (Editor note: Checks are subject to stop payments and fraud procedures. Banks are fully liable.) The Erickson Tribune 07/05

7. Scientist now concur that the earth’s magnetic poles periodically shift. Today the most of the magnetic flux is directed out from the core in the Southern Hemisphere and inward in the Northern Hemisphere, but in a few odd regions, the opposite is true. These so-called reversed flux patches proliferated and grew between 1990 and present. If they were to engulf both poles, a polarity reversal could ensue.. Scientific American 4/05
