A few weeks ago, I received a scathing E-mail
from a former co-worker of mine. I hadn’t seen or
even spoken with this woman since I left the travel industry
in 2001.
It seems she somehow discovered that I am now working as a psychic
and medium, then chose to send me a “nasty gram,” condemning
me for the work that I do. She accused me of “taking
money from poor, ignorant people” and “preying on them
like a vampire.” She even went further to decree that
God was going to “get me” for saying that my abilities
are Divinely given.
Usually, I simply ignore those who confront or assault me because
of my work. My credo has been “I am not here to convince
or convert anyone.” But the E-mail that this woman
sent truly made me angry!
I replied to her E-mail, telling her that I resented her vicious
comments and accusations. I rebuked her attack, based on the
fact that she knows nothing about the work that I do, and informed
her that money is never an issue when someone truly needs my assistance,
but cannot afford to pay. I told her “I can assure you
that I do not prey on people, but I do pray for people … and
I will pray for you.” We who work in the metaphysical, spiritual or paranormal fields
are often maligned by those who view us as charlatans, “snake oil salesmen” or, even
worse, consorts of the devil! In every profession -- doctor, lawyer,
dentist, car mechanic, etc. -- there are those who are ethical and dedicated
to excellence, as well as those who are morally bankrupt and completely inept.
I have had the pleasure of meeting many amazingly gifted, highly skilled
persons who made the choice to devote their lives to their spiritual, holistic
and metaphysical practices. Unfortunately, I have also encountered
a few less scrupulous individuals for whom true ability and/or integrity
seem to have no meaning whatsoever!
I am painfully aware of fellow psychics who have taken advantage of needy
clients, encouraging dependence on their psychic insights and draining
their bank accounts. One
telephone psychic allowed a woman to call him repeatedly, often several times
a day. This poor woman eventually racked up credit card bills of over $100,000.00
and had to file for bankruptcy! The psychic defended his actions by saying, “if
she wasn’t calling me, she’d be calling someone else.”

Recently, I heard the sad tale of a woman who has spent a huge amount of money,
literally millions of dollars, consulting psychics and various other metaphysical
practitioners. I was stunned and infuriated to discover that a local and
well-respected individual in our very own Atlanta community now has almost $40,000.00
of this desperate woman’s money in his own bank account!
These, and other horror stories like them, certainly contribute
to the reasons why some folks, like my former co-worker, find it so easy to berate
and belittle those of us who practice metaphysics. We are unjustly accused,
tried and convicted of the “crime” of guilt by association!
It is very discouraging to me when I hear stories such as these because they
damage the reputation and credibility of those of us who strive to make an honest,
decent living doing work that we are good at and enjoy very much!
To those practitioners who take undue advantage of their clients, I would like
to remind you that “what goes around, comes around.” The laws
of Karma are immutable; you get what you give! We have enough trouble gaining
the respect of the general public without you further damaging our collective
reputations and credibility!
To those who seek the services of psychics, mediums, healers, etc., I suggest
maintaining sound judgment and never allowing anyone to abuse you, financially
or otherwise. Those who do not produce desired results in a reasonable
amount of time, who instill fear in you or make you dependent on their services
are not to be trusted!
And to anyone who condemns those of us who are honest and ethical Lightworkers,
I urge you to learn more about us and the work that we do before making judgments. Remember: “judge
not, lest ye be judged.”
