When I was a small kitten, I inherited all my
bigger brother’s clothes. It was not that we were poor, but that
my parents saw that there was still good in them, so why throw perfectly
good stuff out? “Frugal kitties we must be, after all, it’s
free!” was the chant that is still ringing in my ears to this day.
He got to choose the clothes first and he chose some real “dillies”.
Big flowers, bold stripes and prints and Scottish plaids! How terrible.
We lived in Florida and he had me looking like a New York tourist. The
other kitties in school teased me a lot. My mother could not understand
why I went without a shirt so much. The sun bleached my fur until I was
very blonde making me look even worse in the odd clothes I had to wear.
The relatives often called me by my brother’s name, recognizing
his clothes. They thought I wore his clothes because I admired him. It
wasn’t just clothes, it was everything. I was becoming his second
life. BUMMER! I was unhappy. I had to be my Self. Unconsciously, I started
to ruin the clothes. When I did, mother would make me shirts out of flowered
feed sacks from Grandkitties’ farm. DOUBLE BUMMER! Finally my subconscious
mind stopped my growth. At this time I got some new clothes, because
brother kept growing. I never got a big growth spurt until I was in college.
I finally decided that if I were ever offered someone else’s’ clothes,
I would rebel, refuse and go naked first. The moral of this story is
that you have to be you. You have to be the one to choose your clothes,
friends, ideas and most importantly philosophy. Once you learn to go
within, you will see what you need for you. A mentor or occasional teacher
is OK, but never a Guru. After all, the real spelling of Guru is Gee,
You Are You! I have always avoided any one who thinks they have all or
most all of the answers. That’s why I am not a preacher and do
not go to church. NEVER - EVER! Following a Guru’s path leads to
who they are, not to who you are. Going to a church Sunday after Sunday
brings your direction of thinking and philosophy in the direction of
the preacher. Attend a meditation with like-minded people, or stay home
and go within instead because Gee, You Are You!
